The Meaning of Racism

Racism is commonly defined as the division of humanity based on biological, ethnic, and cultural differences in order to create a position of superiority for one race and a position of inferiority for other races.  Despite the lack of scientific evidence of biological differences indicating human superiority and inferiority, racism is imbedded into societies’ culture. To be blunt I believe racism like sexism, ageism, class-ism, species-ism and every other type of prejudice is a form of primitive thinking. To hate someone simply because of their physical features is in my opinion simple thinking. However, simple thinking has resulted in a huge shift within society as a whole.
Racism is simple thinking applied to unique and complex beings. To hate someone simply because of the color of his or her skin is simple and cruel. The human species are created in all different colors, shapes, and sizes; it is part of our natural existence. We are species (plural) not specie (singular); specie refers to money, coins or precious metals, whereas species refers to units of biological classification. Establishing that we are suppose to vary, it is simple minded to hate someone based on the color of his or her skin.

Racism is a state of mind; children raised with racist parent(s) are more likely to become racist because it a learned behavior. Some children learn that their parents were wrong through social interacts at school, the playground, birthday parties, church, and parks. Some learned through education and knowledge, while others pass racism on to their next generation. Interracial relationships were once illegal in the United States, but because nature must take its course, interracial relationships are very common today. Of course there are those who still frown upon interracial relationship but remember some are generational learner of racism.
Racism is ignorance due to the lack of knowledge, learning, information, or awareness. I once hear a story on a religious program that talked about a young man from the ku klux klan (KKK) who ended up in prison. The young man did not know of any life outside of his family so he strongly believed in hatred based on skin color. In prison the young man began to read and he came across books that explained why racism is wrong. He began to interact with Muslim prisoners as he asked questions to learn and gain knowledge about his wrong thinking; today that young man is Muslim.
Racism is a product of social order; social order is an attempt to create order in social structure which includes economic structures, social norms, social institutions based on cultural values, and social communications. Social order has created more social disorder than order, for example in the history of wars organized religion is the leading cause.
Race is one of the many ways that society has turn against itself. For as long as racism is portrayed in the media racism will continue to exist. At the same time nature will continue to take its course and we will eventually become one species again.
